Emma Stone’s red lip was everything at last night’s SAG Awards. Her tuxedo inspired look really stole the spotlight along with that sleek ponytail and all black ensemble. Lucky for us (and our readers), we got the inside scoop on what products were actually used to achieve Emma’s total beauty look…red lip colour included!
Rachel Goodwin (Makeup Artist to Emma Stone),was inspired by the stars beautifully juxtaposed tuxedo jacket and feminine, sheer gown by Dior Couture. She used her lip as the focal point creating an iconic and empowered look for Emma which was influenced by the women of the late ’70s photographed by Helmut Newton, with a nod to a French editorial feel.
Goodwin (@rachel_goodwin) recently posted this instagram below showing the Helmut Newton photos that inspired the look.
Using a combination of REVLON and CHANEL beauty products, Rachelkept Emma’s lids minimal with copper eyeshadow and a defined lash line.
THE POWER LIP:
Emma’s lips certainly made a powerful statement with her red lip and nails being the only colour. Rachel lined lips with CHANEL Lip Pencil in Rouge Profound and then applied REVLON Ultra HD Lipstick in HD Gladiolus. The effect wasn’t glossy, but wasn’t matte- it had a creamy, luxe feeling.
When applying red lipstick use a lip pencil (either colourless or a matching colour) all over to prevent feathering, define lips and provide extra long wear.
Goodwin rimmed Emma’s eyes with REVLON ColorStay Eyeliner in Blackfollowed by a copper eyeshadow CHANEL Illusion D’Ombre Long Lasting Luminous EyeShadow in Mirage and a few coats (for extra impact) of CHANEL Le Volume de Chanel in Noir and of course some faux lashes to bump up her lash-line for photos.
Skin was prepped with CHANEL Hydra Beauty Micro Serum followed byREVLON PhotoReady Prime + Anti Shine Balm. That flawless complexion was achieved with CHANEL Vitalumiere Aqua followed by a little highlighting and contouring with CHANEL Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Colour Broad Spectrum SPF 15 in N0 10 and N0 20.
Dior’s Kingdom of Colours Spring 2015 ‘micro confetti’ top coat transforms any nail colour from drab to fab. The transparent gel formula is enriched with organic silicone to strengthen your nail’s surface for extra-long wear. The pastel confetti colours yellow, green, blue and white enhance the Blossoming effect with each coat.
It is the perfect accessory for two new exclusive Vernis shades in Lady and Glory but looks just as good on bare nails. Our favorite way to wear it is with soft tones shade like the Dior Vernis in Lady.
Use the confetti eclosion to camouflage a not so perfect base coat. You can also use a toothpick to perfect the placement of confetti.
Dior’s Spring 2015 collection of vernis nail lacquers retail for CA$29 and are Limited Edition, so grab yours now before they’re all gone!

To achieve the flawless contour and highlight, use a sculpting brush (we love tarte’s slenderized bamboo contour brush). Apply the most suitable light shade for your skin tone under your eyes, chin, top of nose, middle of forehead. Apply the right dark shade for your skin tone at the top of your hair line of your forehead, below your cheekbones and both sides of your nose and jaw.
